Is Glacial Acetic acid HC^2H^3H^O (l) (vinegar) salt or acid or base or neither? which is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Besides the name giving it away, it's an acid!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you see that extra H on the front of glacial acetic acid, well in a reaction with water, that H get bumped off and added to H2o to make H3o on the right side of the equation along with the conjugate base of the acetic acid which is written as C2H3O2-...DOES THAT HELP?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you have HC2H3O2 + H2O >>>H3O + C2H3O2-

In that particular reaction, the acetic acid is the acid because it "donate" a H+ proton to water H2O(the base) and turns it into H30+ on the right! :o)
