can you go more in-depth please.

OpenStudy (kainui):

Every time you go across a row you will find that it repeats itself in the properties of the atoms. Lithium, Sodium, and Hydrogen for example all have a +1 charge generally. All the noble gasses are non-reactive. Since it repeats, just like the sun predictably goes around the earth for day and night (humor me here) we call this the periodic table. A period in terms of our solar system is the amount of time it takes the earth to go completely around the sun one time. A period just means one full rotation or movement back to the start, so for instance, the period of a pendulum is the time it takes to swing all the way back and forth to the place it started.

within a row the energy level doesnt change
