Calculate the percent yield for the following reaction if 233 g of NO2 reacted and 175 g of HNO3 were produced. 3NO2 + H2O 2HNO3+ NO

OpenStudy (aaronq):

find how many moles were produced with respect to their coefficients .. divide one by the other and multiply by 100%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

still confused

OpenStudy (aaronq):

sorry i misread the problem.. find the number of moles of reactant (NO2) n=m/MW ..moles = mass/ molecular weight then multiply by the coefficient ratio .. multiply times the molecular weight of HNO3 divide actual/ initial x 100% = you should get around 80%

OpenStudy (aaronq):

coeffcient ratio is x mol/ 3 NO2 = y mol/ 2 HNO3 and you're finding y so the ratio is 2/3
