How many sub shells are associated with n=4 ? and how many electrons will be present in the sub shell having m value of -1/2 for n = 4 ?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

subshells = l = (n-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can yu explain more please ?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

"subshells" are denoted by l (lower case L) which is the angular momentum quantum number. Subshells are more correctly known as orbitals .. s, p, d, f .. which are l=0,1,2,3 correspondingly. each one can hold a different amount of electrons s =2 e, p= 6 e, d = 10 e, f = 14 e.

no prob! if you want more just go on youtube there are a ton of videos about quantum mechanics
