Explain what each quantum number in a quantum number set tells you about the electron. Compare and contrast the locations and properties of two electrons within an atom that have the quantum number sets (3, 2, -1, +½) and (3, 1, -1, +½).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n= principle atomic number (energy level) l = angular momentum m1 = magnetic moment m2 = spin

OpenStudy (aaronq):

so both n=3 that indicates 3rd row l=2 is p orbital l=3 is d orbital + and - spins.. means parallel spins even though they're in different orbital

OpenStudy (anonymous):

l=1 is p orbital l=2 is d orbital l=3 is f orbital

OpenStudy (aaronq):

oh yeah, my bad, 0 is s duh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, for these electrons everything is the same except the orbital, so there is no violation of the exclusion principle.
