#1: Ernest Rutherford's gold-foil experiment showed which of the following? A. the existence of electrons in an atom B. the existence of a dense, positively charged center in an atom C. the existence of subatomic particles with no charge in the nucleus D. the existence of subatomic particles within an atom ***my answer: B is that right?? :)
#2: How did Rutherford discredit Thomson's plum pudding model of an atom? A. He conducted an oil drop experiment. B. He conducted experiments with a cathode-ray tube. C. He conducted an experiment using gold foil and alpha particles. D. He didn't discredit the plum pudding model of the atom, she proved it. ***Idk this one AT ALL :( please help me?? :D
first one is correct Yippie...
yay! thanks :) what about #2 tho?? idk :(
I think #2 is C... is that correct??? :D
"In his experiments, Rutherford bombarded a piece of GOLD FOIL with a beam of radiation containing ALPHA PARTICLES. He shot the alpha particles at a piece of gold foil that was circled by a fluorescent screen. What Rutherford saw surprised him. Most of the alpha particles did in fact seem to pass through the gold foil completely unhindered. That was consistent with Thomson's model. But strikingly, some of the particles were deflected way off course. A few were even sent bouncing back at the source of the beam, as if they had hit a solid object. Rutherford correctly concluded that the positive charge of the atom was densely concentrated somewhere inside the atom, and not spread out as Thomson had suggested." so he used gold foil and alpha particles right?? so my answer is C???
its too correct :)
awesome! thanks ;)
the existence of a dense, positively charged center in an atom He conducted an experiment using gold foil and alpha particles.
awesome! thanks ;)
