How to find empirical formulas?

OpenStudy (hba):

Is this a general question or do you have a question that you want to solve ? @lizki

OpenStudy (hba):

An Empirical Formula Is The Simplest Formula Of A Compound :)

OpenStudy (hba):

Its better you provide me with a question so i can help you :) @lizki

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes,wait

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a) 12,6% Li ;29.2%S ;58,2%O by mass

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b) 27.4%Na,1.2%H,14.3%C,57.1%O by mass

@hba

OpenStudy (hba):

OK, Don't panic! To do these, remember you need to know composition by numbers of atoms, but they are giving % by weight. If you divide all the percents by the atomic weight of the respective element, you will get a series of numbers that are proportional to numbers of atoms. Then, all you have to do is get them into lowest whole numbers to get the empirical formula. -Hba

Thank you alot :)))))

OpenStudy (hba):

Now try solving it and do tell me what answers you get,its very easy :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, but i cant do them fast, because i'm not very good at chemistry :/

OpenStudy (hba):

Do not worry i am here to help :)

OpenStudy (hba):
