Why do we tend to find fats in animals, but oils in plants?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's all to do with tempreture In plants, oils are usually found in their seeds. The degree of saturation of plant oils and fats is entirely dependent on the temperature in which they are grown. These oils provide a store of energy for the seeds' germination, usually in early spring when the weather is cool - if they had fats they would solidify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Animals must have body fats which are liquid otherwise they would be too stiff to move at body temp .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Humans have solid fat though, and so do a bunch of animals.

Dude you just copied that from this website: http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/temperature-of-oils.html

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thats right , the informations correct isn't it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is not complete. It's true that humans would not be able to move if all our lipids were saturated, but we need some saturated lipids (fats) to keep our rigidity, if all our lipids were oils then we would just fall down
