This is because you want to find an x value that will give you f(x) = 3
It's going backwards from the last problem (where you plug in some given number to get another number)

to do that, you follow PEMDAS in reverse by undoing operations
eg: you undo +9 by subtracting 9 from both sides in your first step
3=6x+9
3-9=6x+9-9
-6 = 6x
