the nickel-DMG complex formed in the analysis of ni2+ ions is formed by the donation of electron from nitrogen and not from oxygen in the oxime part of dmg??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

According to this paper, which is quite old, both can be involved: http://rd.springer.com/article/10.1007/BF00798309 I'm not sure what question you're asking anyway. It's certainly plausible that either the N or O could be involved in coordination. Which it actually is could be settled only by experiment, or some pretty careful MO calculations.

swagger jagger xD

OpenStudy (aaronq):

is this a question or a statement?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

QUESTION...IT IS I AM ASKING AS TO WHY COMPLEX FORMATION OCCURS VIA NITROGEN AND NOT FROM OXYGEN WHICH IS ALSO PRESENT IN THE MOLECULE!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@CARL- THE PAPER IS RELATED TO THE COMPLEXING AGENT _ N,N-DIMETHYL GLYCINE AND NOT DIMETHYLGLYOXIME. BOTH ARE DIFFERENT!!

OpenStudy (aaronq):

OpenStudy (aaronq):

if you look at the geometry, it's impossible for the metal ligand to be coordinated with the Ni

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IS IT??? I WAS THINKING THAT A 6 MEMBERED RING WILL FORM IF DONATION OCCURS FROM OXYGEN, WHICH IS ALSO STABLE. I GUESS!! I DONT THINK THERE WILL BE ANY COMPLICATIONS REGARDINGTHE GEOMETRY

OpenStudy (aaronq):

6 membered ring where?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THE TWO RINGS ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES..!! I REALLY DONT THINK ITS THE GEOMETRY OF THE COMPLEX. IT MAY BE THE HYDROGEN BONDING BETWEEN OXYGEN ATOMS .... SOMETHING LIKE THAT. BUT I M NOT SURE!!!

OpenStudy (aaronq):

hydrogen bonding between oxygen atoms, what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with aaronq, the geometry favors coordination from the N. I don't see how you can get a 6-membered ring using the oxygens, but feel free to draw one to illustrate if you disagree. You'll also note aaronq's structure has two H-bonds as sugar on top.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@AARONG LOOK AT THE PICTURE YOU POSTED HERE 350pxnidimethylglyoximecomplex.svg.png THE DOTTED LINES ARE DUE TO HYDROGEN BONDING BETWEEN OXYGEN ATOMS IN BETWEEN THE TWO DIMETHYLGLYOXIME LIGANDS..!! HAVE A LOOK YOU WILL FIND IT/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NOW I AM GETTING YOU CARL.... AND I FEEL ITS RIGHT ....

OpenStudy (aaronq):

you mean the hydrogen to the oxygen, at the top and bottom?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YUP

OpenStudy (aaronq):

cuz you said oxygen to oxygen

OpenStudy (aaronq):

thats why i was confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

MY BAD. APLOLOGIE 4 IT!

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no worries dude

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THANKS FOR UR HELP CARL AND AAROND.. THANKUU!!!!!!!
