loga16=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Log_a(16)=4 is saying that A raised to the 4th power is 16. So, A^4=16, or a=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and how is it two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any logarithmic equation can be written in exponential form: \(\large log_aM=n \) means \(\large a^n=M \)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i get that but so this is the answer a^4=16 ?

no... the question is to find "a" so... \(\large a^4=16 \) \(\large [a^4]^{\frac{1}{4}}=[16]^{\frac{1}{4}} \) \(\large a^{\frac{4}{4}}=16^{\frac{1}{4}} \) \(\large a=\sqrt[4]{2\cdot 2\cdot 2\cdot 2}=2 \)
