Which of the following would you expect to form an ionic bond when combined? Ca and O N and O Ca and Mg N and He

OpenStudy (calculator):

Ionic bond is when metal bonded to nonmetal

OpenStudy (calculator):

at the left hand side of the periodic table, those are metals, namely group 1 and 2, others on the right side is nonmetals, examples are group 13 to 18

OpenStudy (calculator):

so according to the periodic table, Ca is metal and O is nonmetal. its ionic bond

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you for explaining that.....wow!!!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're right by the way :) you're good at this!!!!

OpenStudy (calculator):

Ionic bond = Metal+Metal Covalent = Non-metal + Non-metal

OpenStudy (calculator):

thanks :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll jot this down for future reference :)

OpenStudy (calculator):

Just remember one more thing, Metals do not combine with Metals, but Nonmetals can combine with nonmetals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is that again?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because Ionic is when electrons are transferred, Covalent bonds share electrons. Ionic bonds will nave share, they will always either lose or gain electrons.
