Consider the compound CaCl2. What type of compound does it represent? A.organic B.covalent C.ionic D.diatomic
I have C for the answer but I am kinda doubting myself.............
A. Organic means it has carbon in, so no. D. Means there are two atoms, so no. Ionic bonding is when the outer shell electron is 'given' to the other atom. As calcium has two outer electrons, it gives one to one chlorine atom, one to another. This technically means the Ca is a C2+ ion, and the Chlorine are Cl- ions. The positive and negative charges attract, bonding the atoms together. So it IS C! (D. This is when two atome have to 'share' one electron in their outer shells.)
Thanks :) a bunch ^.^
its ionic bond because ca is alkali metal and cl is electron donor. . . affirmative ;)
Thanks :)
