OpenStudy (anonymous):

Elements, unlike compounds, are pure substances

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is true.

I agree

Your question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that a question or statement?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

compounds can be pure

OpenStudy (jfraser):

compounds and elements are both pure substances

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An element consists of only one type of atom. It is a pure substance and cannot be broken down to simpler substances. A compound consists of the same molecules chemically bonded together. It is also pure. A compound may exist as a pool of molecules(e.g. water)or a larger structure called a crystal lattice(e.g. salt crystals) Therefore, the statement is incorrect. Elements and compounds are both pure substances.
