A 0.75-kg ball is attached to a 1.0-m rope and whirled in a vertical circle. The rope will break when the tension exceeds 450 N. What is the maximum speed the ball can have at the bottom of the circle without breaking the rope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use the equation for centripetal force and the angular velocity...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How? Can you show please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

at the bottom most point tension is maximum.. so substitue your value of tension in the equation t+mg=mv^2/r where r is the length of the rope, and then use energy conservation with the topmost and the bottom most point..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, i got 457.35 value for Fc. Then what to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

CAN YOU PLZ GIVE ME A MINUTE I WILL GIVE YOU THE LITERAL SOLUTION...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok , sure :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I THINK AT THE LOWEST POINT IT WILL T-MG EQUALS Fc AND AT THE TOP MOST POINT IT WILL BE T+MG EQUALS F'c. HERE YOU WILL GET TWO VALUES OF V, ONE FOR THE UPPERMOST POINT AND THE OTHER FROM THE LOWEST POINT. NOW USE ENERGY CONSERVATION WHICH WILL GIVE YOU THE RELATION BETWEEN THE TWO VELOCITITES....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IS THAT DONE FRIEND ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I could not understand. How you get two values of V?
