Describe how a fuel cell works

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A fuel cell is just a battery that doesn't get recharged. You have a redox reaction that pushes electrons through an external circuit. The most common such reaction is the oxidation of H2 to water by O2, but there are others. In particular, the oxidation of simple alcohols to CO2 and water has been studied for consumer fuel cell applications, like laptop batteries and such.
