Consider the sequence (xn) defined by the initial conditions x1 = 1; x2 = 5 and the recurrence relation xn = 5x^n-1-6x^n-2 for n > 2. Calculate the value of x10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you can calculate x3 using the value of the term before which is x2 And now that you have x3 you can calculate x4 And now that you have x4 you can calculate x5... Do you understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because if you see the recurrence equation the next term is the function of the term before it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya i get that but what do i put in the formula 5x^n-1-6x^n-2 for n>2 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n=3 Xn-1 = X2 is 5. Xn-2 = X1 is 1 To work out Xn which n=3 so X3. Unless you are trying to work out an easy way then I think you need the experience of proof by induction.

yes it makes since now thanks
