2Al+6HBr -> 2AlBr3+3H2 When 3.22 moles of Al reacts with 4.96 moles of HBr, how many moles of H2 are formed?

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

First we need to find the limiting reactant here. You can really do that visually in this case. You know that you need 3 times as much HBr as aluminum, and we can see that we don't have nearly enough HBr in this case, so we know that it's the limiting reactant. Now that we know the LR, we just use a mole-to-mole conversion to see how many moles of H2 would be produced if all HBr was used... \[4.96mol HBr \times \frac{3molH_2}{6molHBr}=2.48molH_2\]

ok @Angela23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the LR?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

limiting reactant ok.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yap. what is the limiting reactant?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

In a reaction, there are at least two reactants, the limiting reactant is the one that (usually the one that has a lesser amount), in other words, the one that determine the amount of product. Basically you could say it's the one in a reaction that runs out first before the other :D or In a chemical reaction, the limiting reagent, also known as the "limiting reactant", is the substance which is totally consumed when the chemical reaction is complete. The amount of product formed is limited by this reagent since the reaction cannot proceed further without it. The other reagents may be present in excess of the quantities required to react with the limiting reagent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limiting_reactant

base on my given rxn ,can you solve it for me?the LR?

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

hey!! can you understand???

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

@Yahoo! am i right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im sorry, i'll try . tnx :)

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

welcome!!!
