Please Help!!! Which of the images above (Attached in comments) represent a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem? Explain your choice, and then explain how the figure proves the Pythagorean Theorem.
first do you know the definition of pythagorean theorom
Both
Sorry, figure b
Thank you! merzia but can you please help me explain it?
monkey-buddy, answer japan's question then you can figure out the explanation.
"In any right-angled triangle, the area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares whose sides are the two legs (the two sides that meet at a right angle)." - Wikipedia
Okay, we know that a^2 + b^2 = c^. In the figures you provided, all of the sides have already been squared. To figure out which figure represents proof of the Pythagorean Theorem, add together side a and side b. If the sum of the two sides does not equal side c then the figure does not represent proof of the Pythagorean Theorem. Figure A: 9 + 36 ≠ 64 Figure B: 25 + 144 = 169 For more information on the Pythagorean Theorem, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagorean_theorem
I meant a^2 + b^2 = c^2.
