Salts are ionic compounds that result from the neutralization reaction of an acid and a base. They are composed of cations (positively charged ions) and anions (negative ions). For example, NaOH (aq) + HCl (aq) → H2O (l) + NaCl (aq) NaCl would be considered a salt (and ironically its common name is table salt).
