Which element has the valence configuration 6s26p2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Get out your periodic table. Do you know what the different blocks are?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the element you're referring to would be lead (Pb), if I'm correct. However, the correct way to write the electron configuration of lead would be \[[Xe] 6s ^{2}5d ^{10}6p ^{2}\] You can't just skip to the 6s and 6p orbitals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Only use the Xe though if you are writing it in Noble gas notation though. right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes... if you write it out completely it would be 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 5s2 4d10 5p6 6s2 5d10 6p2 Same thing but it just takes up a lot of space.

Thanks! yeah i have more trouble with configurations since i dont know how to get them unless i have my book with the periodic table in the the back with the electron configuration on the bottom! :/

No problem! Electron configurations follow a simple pattern on the periodic table. There are A LOT of helpful tutorials online that can teach you how to write them. I like this website: http://electronconfiguration.info/ Just scroll down to the part where they give some examples.
