What are some chemical properties of carbon? I'm having trouble with this because of the allotropes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anything that requires a chemical reaction to measure. So, its typical oxidation states and patterns of bonding, typical carbon-carbon bond energy, possible hybridization (if you're thinking VB theory) or formation of MOs (if you're thinking MO theory). Another obvious one is standard reduction potentials for any of the various oxidation states, and the pure element. I would say typical ions formed, but carbon rarely forms ions.

Typical compounds formed with halogens, with oxygen, with other nonmetals, and with metals.

Whether its oxides are acidic or basic.
