Set up two inqualities. The first one is what's inside the absolute value symbol > 21. Then use the word "or." Then the second inequality is the negative of what's inside the absolute symbol > 21. Like this: -7x > 21 or -(-7x) > 21 Now solve each inequality and keep the word "or" in between.

To solve a simple inequality, treat it like an equation. You can add the same thing to both sides. You can subtract the same thing from both sides. You can also multiply both sides by the same thing and divide both side by the same thing, but when you multiply or divide by a negative number, the inequality sign changes direction. Example solve 5x > 10 Divide both sides by 5: x > 2 (final solution) Example: -2x < 12 Divide both sides by -2, and change < into > x > -6 (final solution)

When you have an absolute value inequality of the form |X| > a where X (capital x) is an expression in x, and a is a number, then to solve it, you need to solve two inequalities like this: -X > a or X > a Example: solve |3x| > 15 1. Separate into two inequalities connected by "or": 3x > 15 or -(3x) > 15 2. Solve the two inequalities x > 5 or -3x > 15 x > 5 or x < -5 x < -5 or x > 5 (final solution)
