Last question i promise...... DF bisects EDG. Find FG. The diagram is not to scale.

There is a theorem that states that in a situation exactly like this, (right angles on the bisector, etc.) the two lengths, FE and FG are congruent. So, set them equal to each other. n + 9 = 4n - 6 Solve for n and plug it back in to either n + 9 or 4n - 6 to get the answer.

I am honestly still very confused....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are you confused ON?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Trying to find FG

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. Do you know how to solve for n in the equation: n + 9 = 4n - 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the part i keep getting stuck on.... i always end up with n=3 somehow

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I'll get you closer. n + 9 = 4n - 6 This is the equation that you set up using geometry. n - n + 9 = 4n - n - 6 Subtract n from both sides. 0 + 9 = 3n - 6 Simplify by combining like terms. (n - n = 0) 9 = 3n - 6 0 + anything is still that number. 9 + 6 = 3n - 6 + 6 Add 6 to both sides to get the constant (number without an x) together. 15 = 3n Simplify by combining like terms. 15 ÷ 3 = 3n ÷ 3 Divide both sides by 3 in order to further isolate n. 5 = n or n = 5 (Interchangeable) Do you see how I got n? Now, use this "n" and plug it into 4n - 6 because FG = 4n - 6 FG = 4n - 6 FG = 4(5) - 6 Can you finish up?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

FG=14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup :) FG = 14 Do you kinda sort of see how I got n?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes and thank you so much for going easy on me. Im not very good at geometry >-<

Don't worry about it! Everybody can have trouble at math and it's understandable. :)
