http://bamboodock.wacom.com/doodler/77edcfa9-e13e-45d8-988d-2fa5830a5859 which is correct?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So you determined this? \[\huge \sin \left[\arcsin\left(-\frac{1}{2}\right)\right]=-\frac{1}{2}\] Yes very good :)

zepdrix (zepdrix):

The only thing you'll need to be careful about, is if they give you the problem in reverse. Ummm maybe I can think of a quick example.. hmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it true?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Yes that's true :D

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\[\huge \arcsin\left[\sin\frac{5\pi}{6}\right]\]This might be a good one to try.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but isnt -pi/6 and -o.5 the same answer?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

No.\[\huge -30^o \quad = \quad -\frac{\pi}{6}\text{radians}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so in the question i was trying to solve is the answer -pi/6?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\[\huge \sin\left(-30^o\right)\quad=\quad \sin\left(-\frac{\pi}{6}\right)=-\frac{1}{2}\]Whether you use the radian or degree measure for the angle, you should get the same answer. I'm sorry about that, I shouldn't have said that was correct at the start. The -1/2 was correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but when i typed sin(-30) on my calculator is came out -0.5

zepdrix (zepdrix):

the -pi/6 shouldn't be there at the end :O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the final answer should be -1/2 ? is that correct?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Yes :)

thank you!!
