A cone and a square- based pyramid have slant heights of 6 in. The diameter for the cone and the base edge of the pyramid are both 8 in. a. Which space figure has thye greater surface area? b. By how much does the greater surface area exceed the lesser? Use 3.14 for ╥

someone please help me

a. Figure out the surface areas of both figures. To calculate the cone, use SA = (Pi)rs + (Pi)r^2. Remember that r=1/2d, so r = (1/2)8 = 4. Plug everything in: SA(cone) = (pi)(4)(6) + (pi)(4)^2 SA(cone) = 75.4+50.27 SA(cone) = 125.67 For the square, use the formula SA = 2bs + b^2 SA(square) = 2(8)(6) + (8)^2 SA(square) = 96 + 64 SA(square) = 160 The square has a bigger surface area.

b. Using 3.14 for the cone formula, the surface area is 125.6 exactly. To find the difference, subtract 160 - 125.6, so the greater exceeds the lesser by 34.4 in^2
