When I mix CO2 with Ca(OH)2, the solution will become milky, however, when I mix it with excess CO2, it become transparent again. What is the equation for the second reaction?

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Tip1: What have you formed in the first reaction? Tip2: What is the possible reaction between this product and CO2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1) CaCO3 2) CaCO3+CO2+H2O->Ca(HCO3)2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you very much!

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Correct, but I would rather write: \(CaCO_3+CO_2+H_2O-> Ca^{2+}_{\,(aq)} + 2 HCO^-_{3\,(aq)}\) Because there is no solid calcium hydrogencarbonate in the solution.
