OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

The degeneracy of the level of hydrogen atom that has energy - RH/16 is ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're supposed to work backward from the Rydberg formula to the principal quantum number n, and then remember the degeneracy of the hydrogen atom for each value of n.

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

are subshells degenerate too?

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

@Carl_Pham

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In the H atom, yes.

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

not in other atoms? i fill the orbitals according to aufbau, paulis and hunds rule..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, not in other atoms. As soon as you get electron-electron repulsion, the degeneracy of subshells is lifted.
