Explain how the process of diffusion can be absolutely critical to an athlete. Compare compounds and mixtures and explain what happens to the properties of the original parts of each.

sweat i think

??????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When an athlete, say, a runner, runs, they generate a lot of heat. Diffusion helps them release that heat into the environment so that their body doesn't overheat (which is really bad because then your enzymes might denature and all that stuff). ...but maybe they were thinking more along the lines of, sweat, which helps dissipate heat by cooling the surface of the skin as it evaporates.

Compounds are pure substances that consist of two or more elements, such as carbon dioxide. A bottle of carbon dioxide is a pure substance. (Think of it as always evenly spread out). Mixtures are heterogenous, which means that the substances are not evenly spread out. If you created a mixture of oil and water, like salad dressing, they wouldn't mix together very well.
