hartnn (hartnn):
just divide both sides by
y(m+n)
what u get ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x=p+q ?
hartnn (hartnn):
no....
where did y go ? and m+n ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hmm... x/y = (p+q) (m+n)
OpenStudy (kainui):
Almost...

is that the final answer?
hartnn (hartnn):
x/y = (p+q) /(m+n)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I see. thankyou so much!
hartnn (hartnn):
ok, welcome ^_^
OpenStudy (kainui):
What you do to one side you must do to the other. Dividing something by itself makes it 1 on one side and appear as divided on the other.

how about this... ax-bx=cy-dy ?

hartnn (hartnn):
factor out x from left side , and y from right side,
then it becomes similar to your previous problem
OpenStudy (hba):

hartnn (hartnn):
ax-bx=cy-dy
x(a-b) = y(c-d)
and i think you can solve this.

(a-b)x = (c-d)y
am I correct?
x/y = (c-d)/ (a-b)
hartnn (hartnn):
absolutely
OpenStudy (hba):
Yeshhh good :D

Thanks all for your help. I'll be needing this for my upcoming exam. Real thanks.
