Find the equation of the given circle: (photo attached)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@satellite73 could you possibly help me? i know you're great at this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks like the center is \((12,-16)\) so the equation will look like \[(x-12)^2+(y+16)^2=r^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

radius is \(4\) in this case, so final answer is \[(x-12)^2+(y+16)^2=4^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think this is the formula but i could be wrong (x-h)^2+(y-k)^2=r^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is correct in this case \(h=12,k=-16,r=4\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much, did you get the radius just by looking at the graph? or is there a formula for that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and just one question, you said looks like the center is (12,−16) so the equation will look like (x−12)2+(y+16)2=r2 so wouldn't the equation be y-16? sorry! i'm confused :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you had to get everything from the graph, because that is all you have. i looks like the center is at \[(12,-16)\] and that is 4 units from the circle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay got that part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it would be \(y+16\) because \(y-k=y-(-16)=y+16\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh okay my bad thanks again!!!!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw

@satellite73 can you help me with another problem? i'd really appreciate it
