Elements want to fill their electron shell. Here are a few questions you should ask yourself that allow you to solve this question. If you're stuck try answering them and I'll help you out. 1. How many valence electrons are in the elements that are in these groups? 2. How many more electrons do the elements need to fill the electron shell? 3. When you add electrons to an element, do you form an ion with a negative or positive charge? (hint: what's the charge of an electron?)
