how do you know if a molecule is polar or non polar looking at their lewis dot formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you draw the Lewis Structure: if the molecule is retricemmetrical (not equal) then its Polar, ex: H_2_O, NH_3 if the molecule is symmetrical, like CH_4, Cl_2 then its Non Polar

another way to know is: if the molecule is polar than it is an ionic molecule while if the molecule is non polar than it is a covalent compound.
