Confused! You can model the population of a certain city between the years 1955 and 2000 by the radical function P(x)= 55,000 √x - 1945 . Using this model, in what year was the population of that city 275,000? A) 1970 B)1966 C)1964 D)1975

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I squared both sides and came up with: p(x)=275,000 so 275,000=5500*sqrt(x-1945) or sqrt(x-1945)=275000/55000

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Oh the 1945 is under the square root? I wish you had corrected me before I did all those steps.... :\

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh Im sorry, I didnt catch that at first

I think the answer may be A. 1970 ??

If you work the steps backwards, the answer ends up being A. Just use reverse BEDMAS
