In acid and bases lab report I have been confused by ending point and equivalent point. What is the difference between these two?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

equivalent point is when you have a 1:1 ratio of base:acid, practically then you have titrated equal volume of base into the acid..the end point, i cant remember.. lemme check

sorry i cant find the other part :/ i did acid and bases last semester, sorry.. but i have a feeling that the end point is when you get the color change? but i might be wrong ://

Thank you :) I'll waiting for the other answers too.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

the equivalence point is the theoretical point in a titration reached when the quantity of titrant added is chemically equivalent to the amount of analyte in the sample. (i.e. related to thermodynamics) .. so as bronzegodess said, when the ratio is 1:1. the endpoint is the point in a titration when a physical change occurs associated with the condition of chemical equivalence. (e.g. point where an indicator changes colour, or a precipitate forms). The method of using an indicator when titrating has an error built into it since the quantity of titrant needed-for a physical change that the human eye can detect -will be larger than that for the equivalence point.

Thank you aaronq :D
