OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Mike deposited $6500 into two saving accounts bearing simple interest. One of the accounts has an interest rate of 3% while the other rate is 6%. If the total interest earned after one year is $225, find the amount deposited into each of the accounts.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets put \(x\) as the amount deposited earning 6%. then since the total is $6500 the amount deposited at 3% is \(6500-x\) interest earned is therefore \[.06x+.03(6500-x)=225\] solve for \(x\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

probably easier to get rid of annoying decimal by multiplying both sides by 100 and solving \[6x+2(6500-x)=22500\]

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

so the answer is 100? :) or not?

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

or is the answer 2375? (i followed your formula) the first did 1000, this one did 2375?... :|

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

i solved for x, i get 2375?!
