from the nmr and ir, what is this compound with a molecular formula of C6H12O? http://i.imgur.com/gCgw0Hi.png
definitely an alcohol
Yes, there's defintly an alcohol. The peak @ about 3590 shows this clearly.
im guesing this:3-methyl-1-penten-3-ol
high peak on 3000 is a double bond and its position
Alkenes show peaks at ~1600 alkynes show strong & sharp peaks at about 3000.
oh yeah, ur right I forgot about that. but the high peak on 3000 can be several things
i know there is a methyl, an alcohol, and a double bond but i don't know how to put all the pieces together
with the nrm thats the only way
Yeah. NMR is tough. I used to just use the best possible educated guess when I encountered them.
as far as NMR, I you look at at at the peaks, I believe you count the number of peaks and add 1. That is the number of different hydrogens on that a carbon. I think. I could be wrong tho?
it's peaks -1 hydrogen because of the n+1 rule
just found my chemical instrumental analysis notebook, let me check and maybe ill get the answer
my final guess is the compound I already told you. or maybe very similar to that
