As you can see, cis has the higher Ar/Mr on the same side while trans has the higher Ar/Mr on opposite sides of the C=C

Of course, other inorganic compounds may also have geometric isomerism (i.e. cis and trans). An example will be cisplatin used in chemotherapy and its geometric isomer transplatin. But I normally use organic molecules for illustration purposes
