what is the chemical formula for iron (III) bicarbonate?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Iron is Fe bicarbonate is simply HCO3- and is an anion. The (III) means that the iron is 3+ therefore, if you have Fe3+ and HCO3- what might your formula be?

FeHCO3?

im totally lost. im taking biochem online with only a tiny bit of bio background. wanted a challenge this semester :)

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Oh man. I'm guessing you're taking structural biochemistry. Since it's usually the first biochem course. Anyways, you're not quite right. This is an ionic bonding. So therefore, you have: \[Fe(HCO_3)_3\] If you don't have a strong background in bio or chem, I think this course might be a bit difficult and you might want to reconsider taking it. The way I see it, you are going to be doing double the work studying for the basics you should of learned previously for Biochemistry. Such as general and organic chemistry. And similarly, biology and or molecular biology. But you know yourself more than anyone. Goodluck!

thanks so much! im going to tutoring tomorrow and we'll see if it clicks. Heres hoping :)
