rate laws

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when NH+ increases by a factor of 0.5 but NO2- remains the same,what happens to the rate??? given data Nh4+ 0.010 M 0.015 M 0.010 M NO2- 0.02 M 0.02 M 0.010 M an d rate 0.02 M/s 0.030 M/s 0.005 M/s please help T_T

this is a very difficult table to understand so i'll help out.\[\left[\begin{matrix}[NH_4^+] [NO_2^-] rate\\ .010M .020M .02M/s \\ .015M .020M .03M/s\\.010M .010M .005M/s\end{matrix}\right]\] Now it's a little easier to see that when the ammonium has increased by a factor of .5 the rate also increases by a factor of .5. This indicates it's 1st order in ammonium.
