help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The number of customers that visit a local small business is 29,600 and has been continuously declining at a rate of 2.9% each year. What is the approximate number of customers that visit the business in 10 years?

OpenStudy (stamp):

Identify the formula you will be using to solve this problem and post it here. We can move on from there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A=Pe^-rt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

P=26600 r=0.029 t=10 i did it several times and get stuck help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@stamp

OpenStudy (stamp):

A is going to be the amount remaining, and it will be our variable. The equation is already solved for A, which is good. You say that you are getting stuck, so I assume that you have an answer to this problem to serve as reference?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you show me all the steps with the answer so i can check my work please ?

OpenStudy (stamp):

I do not know the answer exactly, your variables seem accurate. Perhaps you evaluating it wrong, seeing as your setup is correct. Also, please be patient in waiting for replies because I am operating on a slower internet connection but I am working to help you as fast as I can.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

22,149 21,874 39,558 22,054

OpenStudy (stamp):

I obtained 22,148.6 people

OpenStudy (stamp):

I would go with A. What answer were you obtaining so we can identify your error?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you show me hoe you got 22148.6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how^?

OpenStudy (stamp):

A=Pe^-rt P=26600 r=0.029 t=10 A = amount remaining after t time. -r is your rate of decay, and since our population is decreasing, we have -r. t is the time your rate of decay is applied for. Make sure that r and t are the same unit; since t is years and r is %/year, we are ok to start evaluating. \[A=Pe^{-rt}\]\[A=29,660e^{-(0.029)(10)}\]\[A=22,148.6=22,149\]Make sure that you are able to put this into your calculator accurately and obtain the proper answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh OMGGGG i was putting 2660 instead of 29660 thanks

OpenStudy (stamp):

Yeah I was making that mistake too. Your original post has 29,600 as the value, but you listed 26,600 a few times. Good thing we found the error.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you check this one ^^^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this right? The yearly attendance at a local movie theater is 68,000 and grows continuously at a rate of 3.5% each year. What is the approximate attendance at the movie theater in eight years? 89,973

OpenStudy (stamp):

\[A=Pe^{rt}\]\[A=68,000e^{0.035(8)}\]\[A=89,972.8\]\[A=89,973\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks
