how many different committees can be formed from 9 teachers and 34 students if the committee consists of 4 teachers and 2 students? in how many ways can the committee of 6 members be selected?
1) 9C4 * 34C2 = ...
2) 43C6 = ...
formula the combination : nCr = n!/(n-r)!r!
then wat
can u evaluate what is the 9C4 ?
@RadEn 43C6 is NOT the same as 9C4 * 34C2
@cheimene Of the nine teachers, choose 4. This can be done in C(9,4) ways. Of the 34 students, choose 2. This can be done in C(34,2) ways. The entire committee of six can be chosen in C(9,4) times C(34,2) ways. If you have not studied the combination formulas, you can use your calculator or use a web-based calculator such as http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=C%289%2C4%29+times+C%2834%2C2%29
there are 2 questions there, @Directrix ;)
@RadEn I am interpreting this as one question the Asker wrote twice. Note that "in how many ways can **the** committee of 6 members be selected?" refere to THE committee with the 4 teachers and 2 students.
the first is different with the 2nd for the 2nd question, we can free select from 43 to 6 members, it means 43C6, right ??
