Find the General solution of secx+tanx=0 . . ANSWER={}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey ... the way would be... Simplify secx and tanx in terms of sinx and cosx... secx = 1/cosx and tanx = sinx/cosx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

O.O !! what happened ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got the answer but its not coming a null set

OpenStudy (anonymous):

secx/tanx=-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Show your work...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/cosx * cosx/sinx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/sinx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/sinx=-1 <<--what to do after this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey the problem is in the first step itself... You are dividing by tanx but not making sure that you can divide only when tanx is not equal to 0... Else you would be dividing by 0 which is itself NOT PERMITTED...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how to start?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In your case also, 1/cosx * cosx/sinx = 1/sinx only when cosx is not equal to 0... Which gives sinx = -1 with cosx neq 0 i.e., x= (4n-1) pi/2 with x neq (2n+1)pi/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That means from first case, x is some multiple of pi/2 from second case, x can't be a multiple of pi/2 Hence giving no possible solution ... @koli123able *neq* means not equal to...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey you clear ??? @koli123able ... Respond...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay then... pleasure helping...
