Teacher gave us this solubility rules sheet that we are allowed to use on exam but it's kinda confusing to me... Soluble: All Nitrates, acetates, ammonium and group I salts. All chlorides, bromides, and iodides, except silver, lead and mercury (I) All fluorides except group II, lead (II) and iron (III) // What is lead (II) and Iorn (III) ? All sulfates except calcium, strontium, barium, mercury, lead (II) and ag. // All sulfates meaning SO4, S, SO3? Are there more? Insoluble: All carbonates & Phosphates except group I and ammonium. All hydroxides except group I, Sr, Ba A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All sulfides except group I, II, and NH4 // What are all the sulfides? I just know sulfite SO3

What's the difference between sulfates and sulfides?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

Sulfate is SO4-2 containing compounds and sulfides are S-2 containing compounds ex Na2SO4 is sulfate , CdS, H2S are called sulfides

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

sulfate ion is polyatomic where as sulfide is monoatomic ion

Thanks! Much more sense now.
