Find the derivative with respect of x ln(6((cos^5)x))

OpenStudy (raden):

use the chain rule :)

OpenStudy (raden):

derivative of cos is -sin derivative of u^5 is 5u^4 derivative of ln(u) is 1/u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So would the answer be (30cosx^4*-sinx)/(6cos^5x)

OpenStudy (raden):

yes, but actually it can simplied again 30/6 = 5 cos^4 x / cos^5 x = 1/cosx so, what's the final answer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-5sinx)/cosx ?

OpenStudy (raden):

yup, simply again :) sin/cos = tan

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank You so much!(:

OpenStudy (raden):

it can be -5tanx, right ? you're welcome :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I typed in (-5sinx)/cosx and it was correct(:

OpenStudy (raden):

great :)
