) Give the complete ionic equation for the reaction (if any) that occurs when aqueous solutions of MgSO3 and HI are mixed. D) I had MgSO3 + 2HI -> H2SO3 + MgI2 Mg + SO3 + 2H + 2I -> 2H + SO3 + Mg + 2I but correct answer is 2 H+(aq) + SO3 (aq) → H2O(l) + SO2(g) How do I know when something becomes a gas or liquid?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

is H2 SO3 is neutral or balnced please check

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

H2SO4 is ok what about H2SO3????is it charge balanced molecule

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where you getting H2SO4 from ?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

no just asking H2SO4 is balanced right

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

H2SO3 -2 should come right

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

bcoz one less O in it compared to H2 SO4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, Is this is a decomposition reaction because H2 + SO3 decomposes to H2O + SO2 ?

OpenStudy (preetha):

Yes, this is one of those random things they expect you to remember. H2CO3 will also dissociate like that into H2O and CO2. When you have a gas as a product,then that will remain in the net ionic equation, as will H2O(l).
