the key difference lies in the individibiilty. What was originally thought to be whole, can be shown to have smaller pieces. The logic then asks, if the atom has smaller pieces, what are THOSE pieces made of? and what are THOSE pieces made of? It allowed us to realize that we could always ask "what next"
