a )number of terms is same as the number above that summation mark

OpenStudy (nubeer):

b) for first term put n =1 in the given expression

OpenStudy (nubeer):

c) for lsat term "n" would be the one above summation mark. bcos that is the last term u have to go to.

OpenStudy (nubeer):

d) find the value of expression at every value of n for example for part A. first put n= 1 and find value . then put n= 2 find value again.. do it untill n= 5 in the end add all of them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sum_{k=1}^{5}(3k+1)=3\sum_{k=1}^{5}k+\sum_{k=1}^{5}1=3\frac{5(6)}{2}+5=50\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The method above uses a couple of rules for summations you may or may not have studied. Without these rules, you could just put the sum together by brute force.\[\sum_{k=1}^{5}(3k+1)=3(1)+1+3(2)+1+3(3)+1+3(4)+1+3(5)+1=50\]
