There are 5 Republicans and 8 Democrats on a committee. A sub committee of four is selected at random. What is the probability that all are Republicans, given that at least two are Republicans?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you know that there are already two republicans, leaving 3 republicans and 8 democrats to be chosen. Now just find the probability of picking 2 republicans in a row such as\[\frac{ 3 }{ 8 }*\frac{ 2 }{ 7 }\]

so would the answer be 6/56? Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, and you could simplify to 3/28 if you wanted to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey. It didn't work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WOw, careless mistake on my part :/ it's supposed to be (3/11) * (2/9) since it's part/whole. Sorry :s

Hey I tried 6/99 and It still didn't work.
