Fill in the blanks. In the 30-60-90 triangle below, side s has a length of ___________ and the hypotenuse has a length of ____________.

OpenStudy (raden):

hint : the proportion sides a 30-60-90 right triangle is 1:sqrt(3):2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I still don't understand

OpenStudy (raden):

according ur diagram the length of side infront angle 30 is 1, so to get the length of side infront angle 60 just multiply by sqrt(3)

OpenStudy (raden):

also, to get the length of side infront angle 90 just multiply by 2

OpenStudy (raden):

therefore, s = 1 * sqrt(3) = ... h = 1 * 2 = ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is either B or E

OpenStudy (raden):

i never said use sqrt(2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so them it is either C or D

thank you

pooja195 (pooja195):

Notice that this a right-angled triangle. Thus, h^2 = s^2 + 1 Now, we need to check and see which of the given answers fit this criteria. The only ones which do are A and D. For A), s = 1 However, if we have two sides of the same length, we should have a isosceles triangle, meaning that two of the angles are the same. However, this is not the case here. Hence, the only possible answer is D, s = sqrt(3) and h = 2
